What’s Included in My Cost?

Much like any private event, there are many different ways to host an event. Whether you decide to go with a gallery, a bar or a banquet hall, they all have this in common.

The Essentials

  • Cost for the usage of space

  • Cost for alcohol (if needed)

  • Cost for catering (if needed)

  • Tax (in Toronto, this would be 13%)

  • Gratuity (this goes straight to the venue staff and bartenders and the market standard for private events is 18%. Some, however ask for higher like 20%)

The Extras

  • Security fee

  • Cleaning fee

  • Landmark fee (if an outside caterer is brought in)

How Does It Work?

An event like this would be done through a minimum spend agreement, where you (event organizer) and the host (venue owner) make an agreement like this:

  1. You will pay a certain amount of $ upfront prior to the event in order to enjoy the venue privately

  2. Total # of drink tickets that will be used during the event and which beverage items will be eligible for it (the items must be within similar price range)

  3. Appetizers must be pre-ordered ahead of the event and will likely not be orderable during the event. Some venues may allow it, though.
